The movie implies that some strange humanoids in black, perhaps a variation of the MIB know about things behind the scenes with some occasional manipulation or interference. Then there is a big relocation.

A registration number that ends with, N##119 just might have caused some people to have 2nd thoughts.

Of course there have been a lot of aircraft incidents throughout history.

EVERY DEATH IN KNOWING

The ending of Knowing fits right in with the Sci-Fi movie structure, even it's just not fully accurate, and that's OK.

"It wasn’t too long ago that a monster coronal mass ejection just missed us. The damage from this phenomenon would have otherwise meant lights out for Earth up to 10 years, and restoration would have run into the trillions of dollars. That was 2012. The worst one that bombarded our planet took out North America’s entire telegraph system in 1859. Back then, telegraphs were a big deal. Internet is a much bigger deal." 

A Deep_Impact scenario is more likely, but that could be decades or centuries away.

Of course there is always the potential for surprises.
