The-Beard
From the late 1960s to the late 1970s, there were plenty of men that wanted to look like Caveman. However, most of them were of a peaceful vibe & just wanted to enjoy being young wild & free. Decades later, some of the hipster_men seem to want to project the look of a homeless person. Yet, many have high limit credit cards, nice clothing, cars & their smart phones, but seem to want to look like street_people. Most of the actual street people aren't trying to look like cavemen or barbarians, its just difficult to keep a clean shaven neat & tidy appearance when on a very low income.  

Humans are on a world where so many animals & insects attack each other for food & territory, etc. Whether by nature or from a creator, humans have the ability to not want to rip each other apart like several animals do. Animals & monsters are evolved or designed as they are, but most humans have a choice to strive above the monstrous predator level. Of course rich or poor, growing a beard doesn't necessarily cause a man to become more ferocious & violent.

Chewbacca is quite an interesting bearded character. Although occasionally ferocious, he seems to be more civilized than some bearded men. http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Fifield
